Hi guys, Sirby here. I am sad to say that I am the bearer of bad news: AnimeAMAZE Internet Radio will be shutting down at the end of this year. I will try my best to explain how I came to this difficult decision and what the future holds. First and foremost, thank you guys for all your support and the community we built together. Even if there is no radio station, I hope we can all stay connected. Keep reading below if you’d like to know more about the decision:

Behind the Decision
With the amount of streaming services like Pandora and Spotify readily available, radio stations are seeing a huge decline in listeners. While we do take listener suggestions, we are not as “on demand” and customizable as other services, making it hard to compete.

We are also lacking proper equipment and infrastructure. AnimeAMAZE has been running for 13 years, which is amazing, but also means that our equipment is aging. Additionally, as the station grew, so did the demand for higher power computers that were required to handle the heavy work and remain stable while running 24/7. We simply do not have sufficient funds to completely revamp our computer systems. When I started AnimeAMAZE, I vowed to never run ads, and I am happy to say we stayed true to this, even if it meant things were harder for us. I know you all have supported us the best you can, and we are very grateful for the resources and donations.

Thank You

Thanks to IRC, Discord, and the website, we built an amazing online community, and I am happy to say I even had the pleasure of meeting some of you. I appreciate the friendships that have formed, and I would love to stay in touch. I will not be disbanding the Discord, and AnimeAMAZE Inc. will not be dissolved either. I don’t think we will have another radio station any time soon, but we would like to take the time to regroup, and come back with a clear mind and better approach before launching another project.

I also really want to thank all our sponsors for supporting us. I want to thank the person who developed our website, and the person who developed our logo and mascot. With these things combined, they really gave AnimeAMAZE a new look and life. I would also like to thank all our fans and listeners over the years. Without your support and your help, there would not be a station. Thank you!

Final Details

Here is the layout of the shutdown:

ASAP: Sponsorships will be cancelled (refunds if payments have gone through)
Now-December 28th: Normal service.
December 29th at 10:30PM EST: Limited selection of songs on.
December 30th at 12:01AM EST: Station will stop playing music, and the website will display our shutdown message.
May 1st 2019: Our Podcast site will be shut down. All podcasts will be deleted.

  1. This is sad news, but I can completely understand the decision.

AnimeAmaze provided something pretty unique in my opinion, and I will miss it.

Unfortunately for me, I can’t stand the recommendation model of Spotify et. al. I like the linear radio format, exactly because it throws up things that are different, and unexpected. I don’t want some computer algorithm trying to decide what I would want to listen to based on what I’ve heard so far. In addition, I’m sure that some of the soundtracks I’ve heard here will not be available on other services, because this genre is so niche.

I was coming back to the web site (I normally connect directly using Rhythmbox) to see whether this years fundraising effort to keep the service online needed some help (as I’ve helped in the past), so this is quite unwanted news.

Anyway, good luck on your new endeavors.

  2. Sad to hear this, but I completely understand. Nonetheless, thank you for the years of enjoyable anime background music while I worked on projects, sometimes late into the night. It really made the work more fun.

  3. HI.. I’m a new listener and I’m super sad that this station is closing down soon.
though I just discovered this site, I wanted to say thanks for the great tunes.
And I do wish all the best in whatever you do next!

  4. What a bummer! Sometimes you just have to give up on things. At least you’re addressing the issues
head-on and no one is left confused and frustrated because of a lack of communication and understanding. That would stink if we just went to listen and all of the sudden things were different for no apparent reason.

    Cheers to the future!

  5. I’m gonna miss y’all. I enjoyed listening to ya since I discovered you. Seems I’ve been late to the party for a large amount of things, I can add this fine station to that long list. You’ll be missed dearly.
